Volunteer
volunteering, getting involved, community
NWEI’s work would not be possible without the generous help of volunteers. From
the beginning, volunteer citizens have led the way for others to learn
more about the practice of simplicity and sustainable lifestyle.
Initiating small group dialogue, offering NWEI discussion courses in your community, developing curriculum, planning events, offering presentations and mentoring others, the NWEI volunteer community is integral in ushering in a more sustainable future. NWEI's work would not be possible without the motivation and dedication of active citizen volunteers.
Become a Volunteer or Community Organizer with the Northwest Earth Institute
- Live more sustainably
- Deepen commitment about what matters most in your life
- Create community around what you care about
- Enrich a sense of wonder
- Join thousands of others in the NWEI community who are helping to share the discussion courses with others and who are making a difference in their communities
Some of the many ways to get involved:
Become a Course Coordinator: Organize a discussion course in your home community
Coordinators gather people
who are interested in taking a course. This can be done by offering an introductory presentation on the work of NWEI, or by simply gathering friends, family,
co-workers or neighbors. Coordinators schedule the course and final celebration meeting, distribute materials, collect
money for books, encourage membership and communicate with participants.
Mentor new groups
The role of the course mentor is a
key role. The mentor’s main objective is to demonstrate a successful
group process. Mentors facilitate the first session of a course and assist new groups in getting started.
Assist in Curriculum Development
Members of curriculum committees
work with NWEI's curriculum coordinator to put together new discussion
course books and revise versions of our older courses. Volunteers
assist in researching articles, peer review of course drafts, piloting new courses, and consulting regarding the content and flow of courses during their development.
